Course description:
The quantization of the electromagnetic field. Number states, coherent
and squeezed states. Characterization of field states in phase space.
Quasiprobability distributions, the Wigner function. Semiclassical and
quantum description of atom-field interactions. The Jaynes-Cummings model.
Dissipative systems. Coherent propagation and the laser.
