Course description:
Classical structure of matter (mainly
crystals). Binding in crystalline and amorphous systems. Experimental methods
of study of matter. Establishment of phonon spectrum. Thermal characteristics.
Mechanical and plastical features. Effect of impurities on crystalline
features. The basics of the band theory of solid materials and the band
structure (Fermi surface), experimental methods of study. Transport characteristics.
Statistics. Semiconductors, metals, dielectrics. Magnetic properties. Optical
characteristics, methods of spectral analysis. Thermo- and galvanomagnetic
features. Surfaces and interfaces. Lasers and laser-matter interaction.
Aggregates and clusters. Collective phenomena and their practical applications.
Structure of liquids, polymers.
