- Molecular phylogenetics, taxonomy, diagnostics and identification of filamentous fungi.
- Molecular genetic studies on the members of the order Mucorales; development of new genetic transformation methods for Zygomycetes fungi.
- Molecular study of the carotenoid biosynthesis in filamentous fungi; engineering of the carotenogenic pathway in Zygomycetes.
- Metabolite production of filamentous fungi.

Projects:
Principal investigator in several OTKA (Hungarian Research Fund), NKTH (National Office for Research and Technology)-OTKA, Intergovernmental Co-operation (TéT) and ETT projects. Participant in further basic and applied research projects of the department.
